A Milestone ⁢Event

INA, Ill. – On Wednesday, October 23, a groundbreaking‌ ceremony marked‌ the beginning of⁤ an exciting new ​chapter‍ for Rend ⁣Lake‌ College with the ​development of the Banterra Sports Complex. Held⁤ at approximately 11 a.m. on the western​ side of the James “Hummer” Waugh Gymnasium,‍ this event ⁢showcased the college’s commitment to enhancing its athletic facilities.

Expanding Facilities and Features

The renovations promise to bring significant improvements to the⁣ complex, introducing ‌around 5,688 ‌square⁣ feet dedicated to a brand-new entryway and lobby area, as⁢ well ⁤as concessions stands, a training room, and updated restroom facilities. In addition to these enhancements, the‍ already extensive 32,000 square feet space will undergo ‌upgrades that include ​modern digital scoreboards ‌and upgraded scorers’ benches alongside revamped​ locker ⁤rooms‌ and office areas.‍ The complete renovation project is ⁢projected to cost an estimated $6.5 million.

Honoring Tradition while Embracing Change

The revamped Banterra Sports Complex will encompass both current installations such as Waugh Gymnasium along with newly developed areas within proximity. Notably recognized​ for his dedication spanning ‌nearly five decades in coaching and education before‍ his retirement—Waugh Gymnasium holds nostalgic significance as one of the foundational structures in Rend Lake’s landscape since it ⁢bears Coach⁤ Hummer Waugh’s name since being ⁢inducted into this honor‍ back in 1995.

In addition to serving as an athletic venue itself—offering spaces allocated for staff offices—the gym plays host to ⁤various sports activities contributing substantially toward ​building camaraderie amongst students involved in athletics.
