Nobel Laureate Professor Michael Levitt Inspires at XJTLU with Insights on Science and AI
SUZHOU, China, October 10, 2024 — On October 8, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) had the honor of hosting Nobel Prize recipient Professor Michael Levitt for an insightful lecture titled ”A Wonderful Life in Science,” which was attended both in person and virtually by a global audience.
Pioneering Contributions to Computational Biology
Professor Levitt holds a distinguished position as the Robert W. and Vivian K. Cahill Professor of Cancer Research at Stanford University. His groundbreaking work involves developing computer algorithms that have significantly enhanced the modeling and analysis of biological molecules. This research has profound implications for advancements in health sciences. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2013 alongside two fellow researchers for his exceptional achievements.
“I want to motivate young individuals to appreciate the beauty inherent in both basic and applied science,” stated Professor Levitt prior to his lecture. “It’s essential they recognize that scientific research is mainly conducted by everyday people often guided by mentors.”
