Beth Israel‍ Lahey Health, the organization responsible for a‌ number of hospitals ‍in the⁢ New England area, announced on Friday that hospitals ‍within its network were implementing layoffs ⁤for ​an undisclosed number of ⁣employees. A spokesperson for the system declined to specify which facilities were affected ⁣by⁤ the ‌job cuts or the types of positions​ being eliminated.

The spokesperson mentioned via ⁤email that BILH, like many healthcare providers ‍nationwide, is grappling with significant cost increases, limited reimbursement opportunities, ⁤and ⁤evolving patient care trends. ‌At a ​local level, hospital leaders‌ have recognized opportunities to restructure staff roles and will be ⁣eliminating certain positions in order to ⁣best meet local healthcare needs in a sustainable manner.

It⁤ has been confirmed by the‌ Massachusetts Nurses⁣ Association that Beth Israel Deaconess ‌Hospital–Plymouth, ⁤Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, and Beverly Hospital have cut ⁤a small ‍number of unionized nurses’ positions. However, these laid-off nurses will ⁢have access to other available positions within the organization.‍ Additionally, 22 mid-level nurse managers​ at Beth Israel Deaconess ‍Hospital–Plymouth were also laid ‍off; these individuals were not represented by the union.

Following​ a merger in 2019 that resulted in⁣ its establishment as‍ a new entity, ⁤Beth Israel Lahey Health oversees​ over 2,300 beds across 14 hospitals located throughout Massachusetts ​and New Hampshire. This‌ includes well-known institutions such as Beth Israel‌ Deaconess Medical Center and New England Baptist Hospital in Boston and Mount Auburn​ Hospital in Cambridge.
