Olivia Munn Reflects ⁢on Challenging ‌Experiences from Film Set

In a recent episode of Monica Lewinsky’s podcast, Reclaiming, released on February 18, actress Olivia Munn shared her recollections of distressing‌ moments that transpired while filming a movie. Although she did not disclose the film’s title,⁢ the incidents had a significant impact on her.

Munn recounted that during the production, she faced numerous troubling ⁣situations⁢ that compelled her to lodge complaints against the studio. “I had to file‌ grievances with them,” she explained ⁣during her conversation with Lewinsky. ‍“Eventually, I‍ was presented with an astonishing financial offer—seven figures—to accept their ⁤apology and acknowledgment of⁣ these⁢ issues. However, this came with a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).”

Despite being placed ⁤in such a lucrative position, ‍Munn revealed she was never inclined to publicly share details about what occurred on set. Her ⁤priority was to‌ move past those experiences; however, signing an NDA felt unacceptable to her.

She recalled that ⁣these⁤ events⁢ coincided with the heightened awareness surrounding the Me Too movement—a social reckoning ⁢catalyzed in ‍2017 by numerous allegations against‌ prominent film producer‌ Harvey Weinstein. This movement gained traction ‌when actress Alyssa Milano utilized Twitter as a platform urging women to share their⁢ experiences of sexual harassment and assault using the hashtag “Me Too.”

Munn stated, ⁣“It was truly a pivotal ‍moment—the initial fallout from Harvey Weinstein ⁤reshaped conversations ‍around ‍consent and misconduct. At that ⁣time, people⁤ scrutinized anyone who had⁢ taken an NDA as if they solely acted out for monetary gain.”⁣ She ‍admitted feeling apprehensive that speaking out might ⁣undermine her credibility: “I feared that voicing my ‌concerns would somehow validate accusations ⁢against ‍me.”

Worried about potential repercussions from the studio regarding her decision—which could include revealing⁤ details about signing an ⁣NDA—Munn ‍took some legal advice but ultimately chose not‍ to pursue ‍any settlement.

“I ⁢believe my determination came from being overwhelmed by frustration and‍ anger ⁢at receiving‍ such an indecent proposal,” Munn noted. Rather than⁣ consider⁣ negotiations or alternative⁣ outcomes initially presented by attorneys ‌during meetings where they highlighted how financially rewarding their ⁢offer might be⁢ for her situation—she felt it lacked⁢ respect for what‍ she ⁢endured: ‍“I insisted‍ specifically‌ my decision ‌should ⁤come from me.”

As she exited one ⁣particularly tense⁤ meeting with legal representatives who bolded asserted how hefty their offer truly was, Munn firmly articulated back: “While this amount may seem substantial to you all; it does not equate in importance compared to raising my voice.”

Looking back ‌at those decisions⁤ made during trying times left Munn feeling “immensely proud” of honoring herself through those actions.
