During a press conference on⁣ the same day, ⁣the politician shared that she ​discovered more about the ‌couple through their Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, which made a significant ​impact on her.

Márquez explained, “How did I get⁢ to know Meghan and ​Harry? I first encountered them⁣ through the media, and I particularly watched⁣ the Netflix series about⁢ their lives and their story, which deeply moved me.”

She further⁣ added, “It motivated me to say, ‘This is a woman who deserves to visit our country and‌ share her story,’‌ and undoubtedly, her visit will strengthen ⁢so many women around the world.”

The six-part Harry & ‍Meghan, which detailed their childhoods, courtship, and⁣ transition from their royal roles, became Netflix’s ​largest documentary debut, showcasing their multiyear deal​ signed in 2020.

Márquez, also serving as Colombia’s Minister⁤ for Equality and Equity, disclosed that she had previously invited the Duchess⁣ of Sussex to participate in a⁣ “Day of Afro-descendant Women” celebrated annually⁣ on July 25, despite Meghan’s inability to attend.

“At ‌that time, we sent her ​an invitation letter, and she responded saying that she couldn’t come but was very eager to visit and get to know our country,” Márquez revealed.

Besides, Meghan’s journey to Nigeria with Prince Harry in May allowed her to‌ connect with her heritage,‌ as she discovered through a ‌genealogy test that she is 43% Nigerian. She expressed ⁢her enthusiasm to delve deeper into⁣ her Nigerian roots and share the⁣ knowledge with her children and mother.
