Another Planet Entertainment fulfills a three-concert commitment to the city of San Francisco by organizing a free daytime electronic music show at Embarcadero Plaza, featuring the Dirtybird kids on June 21. This event, titled Dirtybird: Back to Baysics, is modeled after the popular Dirtybird Campouts and will be a free show next to San Francisco Bay from 2 pm to 6 pm on Sunday, June 21. Attendance is free with an RSVP, but there may be a capacity cap, and the organizers have decided not to put up any fencing at the venue.
The headliner for the event is DJ Sacha Robotti, and other featured DJs include Moody Jones and Deron Delgado. Other acts are scheduled to be announced soon, and interested individuals can receive updates by texting “FERRY” to 415-446-1025.
To accommodate the event, there will be street closures around Embarcadero Plaza, and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) will provide details about these closures soon. This show is similar to the Skrillex/Fred Again concert that took place in May at Civic Center Plaza and was announced with short notice, possibly to prevent large crowds from gathering.
Bryan Duquette of Another Planet Entertainment anticipates an attendance of 2,000 to 5,000 people, significantly smaller than the 25,000 strong crowd at the Skrillex/Fred Again show. However, considering the city’s penchant for free events and favorable weather conditions, the actual crowd size could be significantly larger.
This free concert is one of three organized by Another Planet Entertainment in the city this year, as part of an agreement to use the Polo Field in Golden Gate Park for a second weekend after Outside Lands. The upcoming event will be a one-day alt-metal fest on Saturday, August 17, featuring headliners System of a Down and Deftones, which quickly sold out when tickets were released.
Expect an afternoon of heavy, rhythmic bass emanating from downtown, accompanied by a multitude of EDM fans adorned in camper and scout costumes. Dirtybird Records launched its first campout in 2015, and the camping festivals have become a cult hit. However, the campouts have been put on hold since 2022 as the organizers seek out a new venue, potentially closer to Southern California and a major airport to accommodate artists’ schedules.
The last Dirtybird Campout in October 2022 was held at the Modesto Reservoir Campground, but previous iterations had been even further away. Described as “summer camp for adults,” the campouts feature various activities and performances in addition to music, including tug-of-war, wood carving, drag shows, and free ice cream distributed by individuals in animal costumes.
