The Christmas Ornament Movie, “The Christmas Ornament” is a Hallmark Channel Original Movie that premiered on Nov. 16, 2013 as part of Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas programming. The holiday romance stars Kellie Martin as a young widow who tries to get past her grief by avoiding Christmas.

The holiday movie stars Emmy nominee Kellie Martin along with Emmy nominee Cameron Mathison (“All My Children,” “See Jane Date”), Jewel Staite (“The Killing,” “The LA Complex”) and Brendan Meyer (“Cedar Cove,”"Mr. Young”), according to information from Hallmark Channel.

The movie opens with a woman skating solo at a skating rink and then riding her bicycle to her small bike shop, where she has one employee. The woman is newly widowed Kathy (Martin), whose grief over the death of her husband is still palatable several months later.

Christmas memories are painful for Kathy, so she plans to skip out on decking the halls and trimming the tree this Christmas, trying to avoid anything that will bring back memories of her late husband. The only Christmas tradition she will keep is baking holiday cookies, which her friends look forward to eating. Baking cookies has been a passion since childhood and the results are delicious.

When her friend Jena (Staite) tries to shake Kathy out of the doldrums by taking her to a Christmas tree lot, she meets Tim (Mathison), the handsome owner of the shop and they hit it off immediately. They run into eachother a few times and a relationship buds, but Kathy is still not ready to let go of the past. Tim gives Kathy an ornament as a gift and starts to decorate a Christmas tree and gets into the holiday spirit.

Meanwhile, Kathy struggles with the bike shop’s finances. The shop was her late husband’s dream and she wants to keep his dream alive, but begins to realize that she is following his passion but not her own. When the neighboring business offers to buy her lease so he can expand into the space, her business manager advises her to sell and start to pursue her own interests.

Kathy takes a plate of Christmas cookies to Tim’s shop and ends up passing them out to customers. Her act of kindness results in requests to order her cookies and she starts filling orders through the shop that Tim and his nephew Connor (Meyer) manage.

Tim has been making plans to expand and the sale on the land he is buying goes through. He takes Kathy to see the property and even shows her a shop where she could sell her cookies year-around. Kathy starts to feel excitement at the chance to move on with her own future.

Tim tells Kathy that his heart had been broken by his previous girlfriend, Rebecca. Just as Kathy thinks that she might open her heart to Tim, Rebecca comes back into the picture and wants to reunite with Tim.

With Christmas approaching, Kathy must decide if the Christmas ornament is a sign that she can have a hopeful future with Tim.
