Sochi Weather Forecast, The Russian government’s Roshydromet weather service has launched a website that would offer hour-by-hour weather forecasts for the Winter Olympics in Sochi. The forecasts will show temperatures at various mountain altitudes, and describe air and water characteristics.
“The weather forecast for the Sochi Olympic is favorable, it can be said,” the Olympics’ chief meteorologist, Valery Lukyanov, told a news conference at the games’ chief media center on Saturday. He claimed there would be good and stable weather in Sochi until around February 10.
In the coastal Olympic Park in Adler district, temperatures would be between around 7 and 12 degrees Celsius in the daytime and drop to around zero at night. In the mountain contest venues in the village of Krasnaya Polyana, nighttime temperatures in the next few days would be between minus 1 and minus 6 degrees at the foothills and between 7 and 12 degrees at altitudes of about 2,000 meters, Lukyanov said.
The Olympic coastal village Usadba, the mountain village Derevnya and the additional village Sloboda have opened their doors for participants of the Games-2014. Each of them is distinguished by its architectural and interior design, set of souvenirs and cultural program, the organizing Committee Sochi-2014 said.
At the opening ceremony of the coastal village, IOC Executive Director for the Olympic Games Gilbert Felly has noted that for the country hosting the Games checking into Olympic villages launched today means the end of a long way of constructing Olympic objects. “This is also the beginning of a new long way for the employees of the Organizing Committee, for services, which will attend to athletes and volunteers. For all those, who will create comfort for athletes,” the representative of the IOC said.
Olympic champion Yelena Isinbayeva became the mayor of the Olympic village Usadba located in the coastal cluster of the Sochi Olympics. According to her, this new position “is a great honor, a great responsibility and an honorable job”. “As an athlete performing at the Olympic Games, I always tried to be the best and jump higher than others, to always win the first places. And I was great at doing this. As the mayor of the coastal Olympic village, I will do everything that depends on me for our Games to be up to the mark”, – Isinbayeva took a symbolic oath.
The territory the Olympic champion is in charge combines architectural traditions of Russian classicism and modern technologies in furnishing and equipment of rooms for sportsmen.
