Olympic Medal Count 2014, After sweeping the podium in the men’s speed skating 5000 meter on Saturday morning, the Netherlands are tied for first place in the medal count with Norway, who has also won a gold, bronze and silver medal so far in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Only five countries have brought home medals so far with just three events in the books, in what is a tight medal count race to kick off the games.
Along with the Netherlands and Norway, the United States, Sweden and Canada have each brought home one medal.
The lone United States medal at this time was won by freestyle snowboarder Sage Kotsenburg, who was able to pull off a stunning upset to top the podium, in the men’s snowboarding slopestyle final. The 20-year-old American beat out silver medalist Staale Sandbech of Norway and bronze medalist Mark McMorris of Canada.
