Michigan Shooting, The 43-year-old man who is expected to be charged today for 24 shootings along the Insterstate 96 corridor has local ties and was a graduate of St. Johns High School and Michigan State University.
Raulie Wayne Casteel, who was arrested at his Wixom home Monday, is listed as a 1987 graduate of the high school, according to a web site featuring the class yearbook page by the Clinton County Historical Society.
A public records search shows Casteel also lived in East Lansing, DeWitt, Okemos, Howell and Brighton, as well as Kentucky and California.
Prosecutors are currently determining the charges Casteel will face.
Casteel’s mother told the Detroit Free Press she was worried her son was mentally ill and tried to get him help.
“He trusted me, but I could not get him to see a doctor,” Lana Hunt, 62, of Brooksville, Fla., told the Free Press Tuesday evening.
Reached by phone, Hunt said her son was taken from his Wixom home Monday night and was questioned by authorities. Law enforcement officials confirmed that Casteel is the suspect they have in custody in connection with the I-96 corridor shootings.
