McIlroy Late For Ryder Cup, Rory McIlroy arrived late at the tee for his singles match after apparently confusing Eastern and Central US time. While the rest of the European team managed to turn up without a hitch, the world number one was rushed to the Medinah course with a police escort and began his match against Keegan Bradley without having time to practice.
European captain Jose Maria Olazabal told the Golf Channel that his heart was racing when he discovered McIlroy’s absence.
“We did not have that in mind,’ Olazabal added. ‘All of a sudden we realised Rory was not here and started to look for him. Finally we got hold of him and he came in with a police escort with 10 or 11 minutes to go.”
@JeffShain tweeted: “It appears Rory McIlroy got confused by watching Golf Channel – all match times were shown in EDT. That’s his story & he’s sticking to it.”
@adrianjclarke added: “Lost for words as to how Rory McIlroy can get the time wrong & just get to tee in time for start. Why isn’t every player together? #shambles”
