Fifth Third Ballpark Fire, As a fire raged in the suites at Fifth Third Ballpark on Friday, some wondered about other events tied to the park, most notably the current Christmas lights show and the popular Winter Beer Festival in February.
This evening’s Christmas Lite Show has been cancelled and a determination will be made later this afternoon on whether the final date of this year’s show on Saturday night will take place, according to event owner Bill Schrader.
Schrader called the possibilities of the final date “doubtful” but needed to talk with ballpark officials before making a final determination.
The annual light show of more than one mile of animated Christmas light displays takes place in the parking lots surrounding the ballparks.
Another outdoor event, the Winter Beer Fest 2014, is scheduled for Saturday Feb. 22. The festival also utilizes the Pepsi Stadium Club, which is located behind the right and center fields of the park.
In an email, Michigan Brewers Guild Executive Director Scott Graham said “The Michigan Brewers Guild is certainly concerned about our upcoming beer festival at the Fifth Third Ballpark but our first concern is for all of our friends at the West Michigan Whitecaps. Our thoughts and prayers are with the staff at the ballpark today and we will assess what it means to the Guild after the damage is under control and can be assessed. Because our event is held outside the ballpark in the parking lot we are hopeful that it will turn out well. We will do our best to keep fans of MI beer informed in coming days as we learn more.”
More than 6,000 tickets to the event were sold in just three hours as the annual beer festival has become one of the most popular in the state.
