Captain Phillips Ship, The Maersk Alabama docked in the Kenyan port of Mombasa on April 12, 2009, following a harrowing rescue by U.S. Navy SEALs. Two security officers aboard the ship portrayed in “Captain Phillips” have been found dead off the eastern coast of Africa.
The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the death of the two U.S. citizens on the Maersk Alabama vessel. The Coast Guard said an investigator from Coast Guard Activities Europe is engaged in an investigation and the agency could not release any other information.
“We are monitoring the reported incident involving two deceased U.S. citizens onboard the Maersk Alabama while moored in the Seychelles, The Coast Guard said in a statement. We offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the two deceased.
On April 8, 2009, four Somali pirates hijacked the cargo ship and took its captain Richard Phillips captive. He was rescued days later by Navy SEAL snipers.
