Andy Commencement Speech & Saturday Night Live, Harvard sure likes to get Saturday Night Live alums for their commencement speeches. Previously, Conan O’Brien (once a writer on SNL) gave a hilarious and surprisingly inspirational commencement speech at the school (where he graduated magna cum laude in 1985). Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler have also delivered the address in the past.
Andy Samberg just wrapped up his final season on SNL (if the rumors are to be believed–nothing is official yet) and he is the latest to be tapped by Harvard to deliver the funny. Though his speech won’t go down as one of the all-time greats (it’s not near the level of Stephen Colbert’s insanely hilarious 2011 commencement speech at Northwestern), it still delivers a lot of laughs.
Though the crowd was a tough one, Samberg handled them pretty well. He worked in some of his most tried and true material, such as his impressions of Mark Zuckerberg, Nicolas Cage and Mark Wahlberg (“say hi to your mother for me”).
He also performed some hip hop, of course. The song was “This Is How We Do It” by Montell Williams.
